New Pininfarina one-off Ferrari
Posted: April 4th, 2006 | Author: admin | Filed under: Concept Cars, Ferrari | Leave a comment »Autoweek reports that a well-known collector (James Glickenhaus, a B-movie mogul turned Wall Street fund manager) has commissioned Pininfarina to build a one-off Ferrari inspired by the original Ferrari P3/4 racers from the late 60s that he hopes to debut center stage at a premier automotive event this summer.
And while this information has not officially been released, its source is reputable, the collector himself sharing details online. Whether this is a case of braggadocio or a done deal remains a question until the unique Ferrari is seen in its carbon fiber flesh; all else being equal, however, if it is for real, it undoubtedly will be a stunner.
For those who need a reminder of their history, the original Ferrari P3/4s beat the Ford GT40s at Daytona and won the constructor’s sports car championship in ’67, the year in which the GT40s won Le Mans.

Kia Rondo – redesigned US Kia Carens MPV

Kia has has revealed the first glimpse of its all-new Carens compact MPV that its world premier will be at the Spanish Motor show on May 25.
To be named Kia Rondo in North America, the new Kia car model follows the familiar trend and is longer, wider and taller than the model it replaces and will be available with seven seats for the first time in Europe.
The rear seats of the Kia Rondo concept car fold down flat into the boot floor when not required.
Due to get its formal unveiling at the Spanish motor show on May 25, the Carens is the fifth new Kia model following the Picanto, Rio, Sportage and Carnival to make its debut at a European show.

German startup Loremo AG revealed the new Loremo Concept Car that will have a sensational fuel consumption of only 1.5 litres / 100 km due to the reduction of weight and air resistance
The new concept car is the result of a productive “struggle” for comfort, design and efficiency:
The realisation of the principles of simplicity, aesthetics and aerodynamics in design allow for the low air resistance. This low air resistance results from the excellent Cw value of 0.2 and from a frontal area which has been reduced to the minimum.
This is a pioneering concept since the lowest level price is achieved by a construction principle that conserves resources.
Loremo’s driver will need only 300 litres of fuel at an annual road performance of 20,000 km, whereas a conventional small car would have to consume 1,600 litres of fuel while assuming the same road performance.Â
The Loremo concept car will be offered in two models, the Loremo LS and Loremo GT. The LS car model is powered by a 20 hp, 2-cylinder turbodiesel, while the GT gets a 50 hp, 3-cylinder unit. Both are 2 2, mid-engine/RWD configurations with a 5-speed gearbox. The GT will go from 0-62 mph in 9 seconds, but the real strength of the Loremo is fuel efficiency – the GT consumes only 2.7 liters per 100 km, while the LS needs only 1.5 liters/100 km.
According to Loremo, the LS car model will be priced at about $13,100, while the GT car model will sell for less than $18,000. 
The structure of the body is unconventional: You will get into Loremo by a lateral threshold Instead of two lateral doors there is one “gate”: A frontal door opens forward before the seats, taking the steering wheel with it The roof and the doors are laid out as a two-layer plastic construction with a laminated interior side. In addition, the rear seats can be used for large quantities of baggage… Instead of a longitudinal adjustment of the seat, the pedals and the steering wheel are adjusted to the driver. The rear seats are installed against the line of travel. The dashboard is replaced by a simple instrument mushroom-shaped with a display.

2006 Hybrid Concept – Saab BioPower

A new hybrid concept car comes from Sweden. Probably one of the most radical concept car ever produced by Saab the new concept car looks like the worlds first 100-percent ethanol-powered, hybrid, all-wheel drive convertible.
The BioPower Hybrid Concept car is more of a prototype than a full-out concept. All the technologies featured could be applied to todays production car without too many difficulties, making it a true demonstrator for environmental and performance-boosting aids that are just around the corner.
The BioPower Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter high-pressure turbocharged inline-four; the same basic engine you might find under the hood of the standard 9-3 Convertible, or the older 9-3 Aero. In non flex-fuel applications, the engine normally produces 210 horsepower, controlled by Saabs brilliant Trionic engine management system, but here, running on 100-percent ethanol alcohol, the engine is able to make a whopping 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque; a 24 percent improvement in horsepower and a 25 percent improvement in torque over the standard engine. It must be said that all gains arent necessarily attributed to the new fuel; the engine also features GMs new direct injection fuel system (SIDI) which further helps to optimize the cars efficiency and boost power. Pontiac G6 GXP Show Car

At the upcoming New York International Auto Show Pontiac will reveal a new G6 GXP coupe show car (Pontiac G6 GXP concept car). The new car concept from Pontiac is designed to augment the G6’s sleek styling with a more aggressive appearance and stance.
The new Pontiac GXP show car model will test both media and public reaction before any final decision on production is made. The new G6 GXP car model, a spin-off of the two-door coupe, gets a 270-hp, 3.9-liter V-6 engine along with body mods.
Although the GXP performance series has been very successful in the past, we’ve never attempted to introduce a GXP on our largest volume vehicle and we want to be sure we do it right, said Dennis Maraone, Pontiac product director about the new Pontiac concept vehicle. We believe the package of exterior, interior and performance enhancements we’ve put together on the Pontiac G6 GXP show car should appeal to 2+2 coupe enthusiasts.
Powering the coupe concept is a modified 3.9-liter V6 engine with a six-speed manual transmission. Engine performance is augmented by tweaking the variable valve timing system, linking a ram air induction system with K&N air filter to a cat-back free flowing exhaust which boosts engine output to 270 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. This is definitely a step up from current G6 GTP models, which sports the same motor, but only tuned for 240 maximum horsepower.
